Βιογραφικό Σημείωμα

Ο Δρ. Ιωάννης Καραούζας είναι βιολόγος-περιβαλλοντολόγος, και Κύριος Ερευνητής (Ερευνητής Β’) του Ελληνικού Κέντρου Θαλασσίων Ερευνών με γνωστικό αντικείμενο «Οικολογία βενθικών μακροασπόνδυλων εσωτερικών υδάτων». Έχει 20η εμπειρία στην οικολογία, προστασία και διαχείριση επιφανειακών υδάτων. Κύρια αντικείμενα έρευνας αφορούν στην εκτίμηση της οικολογικής κατάστασης ποτάμιων οικοσυστημάτων, περιβαλλοντική ρύπανση, οικολογία επιφανειακών υδάτων, οικολογία και συστηματική υδρόβιων ασπόνδυλων, και προστασία και διατήρηση της βιοποικιλότητας. Ασχολείται ειδικά με τις επιπτώσεις των ανθρωπογενών δραστηριοτήτων και της κλιματικής αλλαγής στη βιοποικιλότητα και στην οικολογική ποιότητα των ποτάμιων οικοσυστημάτων. Είναι επίσης ειδικευμένος στην οικολογία και ταξινομία των υδρόβιων ασπόνδυλων με κύρια εξειδίκευση στα Τριχόπτερα (Trichoptera).

Ολοκλήρωσε το διδακτορικό του στην Οικοτοξικολογία και τη Ρύπανση των Υδατικών Πόρων στο Πανεπιστήμιο Ιωαννίνων, όπου μελέτησε τις επιπτώσεις των αγροτοβιομηχανικών αποβλήτων στους υδρόβιους μακροασπόνδυλους οργανισμούς σε διαφορετικά βιολογικά επίπεδα οργάνωσης. Αποφοίτησε από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Brighton (Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο), όπου σπούδασε Βιολογία και έλαβε το Μεταπτυχιακό του δίπλωμα στην Επιστήμη της Περιβαλλοντικής Ρύπανσης από το Brunel University (Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο). Έχει συμμετάσχει σε 13 διεθνή και 25 εθνικά ερευνητικά έργα, που σχετίζονται με τη βασική και εφαρμοσμένη οικολογία των ποτάμιων οικοσυστημάτων, την παρακολούθηση και αξιολόγηση της οικολογικής κατάστασης και την ολοκληρωμένη διαχείριση των λεκανών απορροής ποταμών. Είναι πιστοποιημένος αξιολογητής της Διεθνής Ένωσης Προστασίας της Φύσης (IUCN), όπου πρόσφατα αξιολόγησε την κατάσταση 130 ειδών για το Κόκκινο Βιβλίο των Απειλούμενων Ζώων της Ελλάδας και για την IUCN.

Έχει δημοσιεύσει 113 επιστημονικές εργασίες σε διεθνή περιοδικά με κριτές και παραπάνω από 100 δημοσιεύσεις σε πρακτικά εθνικών και διεθνή συνέδριων. Το έργο του, μέχρι τις 15/01/2026, έχει αναφερθεί περισσότερες από 3.880 φορές.
